Penne with Cauliflower & Broccoli

It's the spring marathon season; that must mean it's time to eat more pasta, right?  Here's a very simple, but tasty and colorful penne recipe.  Total preparation time is about 30 minutes or so, depending on how fast you cut up thte broccoli and cauliflower into bite sized pieces.   I imagine that you could substitute a small can of chicken or even tuna for the ham, but I've never tried that.

2 cl.     garlic
3 C      cauliflower & broccoli, cut up
1 pt.     plum (Italian) tomatoes
1/8 t     cayenne (or hot red peppers)
2 t        basil
1 t        rosemary
1 C      chicken broth
4 oz.    ham (small can), shredded
1 C       half & half           


Sauté the garlic.  Add cauliflower & broccoli, cooking about 5 min. 

Now add the tomatoes and spices.  Break up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon and cook for another 10 min.  Add broth and shredded ham. 

Simmer 5 min. longer before adding half & half.  Heat through.

Meanwhile, have the penne cooked and ready to add.
