In conjunction with the ROTC's Northern Warfare Challenge, we are offering a civilian event on our trails as well!
The Northern Warfare Challenge is the 3rd Brigade Army ROTC's event hosted by ROTC students based in La Crosse. The challenge for the ROTC members will include around 16 miles in the La Crosse Blufflands while carrying a pack and they will have multiple challenges to complete. Over 40 teams from all over the country will be competing!
The Civilian event will be done in conjunction with the ROTC event, but participants will NOT have to participate in the same challenges as the cadets. Instead civilians will run the course alongside the cadets and have a chance to cheer them on as they challenge themselves in new ways. You also have the option to carry a Ruck Pack or to just run like normal.
RUCK Details
-
The Civilians will start from Bethany Church on Co. Rd. B at 7:30 am and run approximately 13 miles through the snow in Hixon Forest. The finish line will be at the Forest Hills Golf Course. This is the only difference with the cadet race where they finish in a different spot.
-
In the event that the trails are not usable due to varying snow conditions an alternate route will be provided, but distance and route are TBD based on weather. Welcome to winter trail events ;)
-
Aid Stations will be VERY SIMPLE. We will have approximately 2 spots on the course at mile 5.5 (Upper Hixon Forest Parking Area), and mile 9.5 (Lower Hixon Parking Area) with water that we will be trying to keep from freezing, and a few sweet treats. But in this event you should plan on being as self-sufficient as possible. Our Military counterparts are required to carry their own food, and you will too!
-
Packet Pick up will be day of only, starting at approx 6:30 am at Start line!
To run these fun and unique events, we always need volunteers! If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping make this a great trail experience for others please consider volunteering. There are LOTS of opportunities to serve before, during, and after the event.
